Het rond het middaguur van 06 september 1970 povere publicitaire vullingsvertoon van de Plantamontgolfiere kon men toch
beschouwen als de aanloop naar een wereldpremiere.
Voor de eerste maal zou die dag een moderne montfolfiere opstijgen vanuit een stadscentrum.
De gasballonvaarders die de dag voordien op het Marktplein hun kunde vertoond hadden moesten later willens nillens toekijken
op een nieuwe en gemakkelijkere manier van de ballonvaartbeoefening waarvoor de meesten van hen hun neus ophaalden.
Dat publicitaire vertoon had de technische organisator van het ballongebeuren op het Marktplein, dhr.Vanderstraeten Joseph
- zelf gasballonvaarder - humeurig gemaakt en hij dreigde ermee dat indien een nieuwe poging die latere namiddag niet zou
slagen ... die vodden niet meer zullen vertoont worden op de Markt!
Hij duidde Francois Schaut aan die dan maar moest tonen dat er wel op de Markt kon opgestegen worden met die vodden.
Even voor 18.00u spreidde Francois de door Petrogaz in Holland gehuurde ballon PH-BEN voor de vulling.
Precies om 18u20 steeg hij alleen aan boord vrij snel en statig op.
Het talrijk aanwezige publiek was verrast door dat nieuwe ballonvertoon op hun Marktplein.
Pas toen Francois een vijftigtal meter hoog was hoorde hij het applaus aanvangen van de verbaasde toeschouwers daar beneden.
De G-AYAM uit England steeg op met aan boord Don Cameron en Tom Sage.
Als laatste mocht Gerard Delforge zijn Planta OO-GDB vullen en opstijgen in het gezelschap van Henri Vander Linden.
De vaarten verliepen heel goed met landingen in de buurt van Bornem.
Op zondag 08 september 1974 mogen alleen vijf belgische heteluchtballonvaarders op de Markt van Sint-Niklaas strijden
voor het Eerste Belgisch Kampioenschap dat wegens ongunstige meteo uitgesteld wordt tot 07 september 1975 en dan wel door
gaat.
Geleidelijk aan is het heteluchtballongebeuren er toegenomen tot het nu internationaal en kleurrijk vertoon.

06/09/1970: vaart de allereerste moderne hete-luchtballonvaart vanuit een stadcentrum te Sint-Niklaas(B).
Naar bewering van de er aanwezige buitenlandse aeronauten, Ed. Yost/USA, Don Cameron/GB, en Tom Sage/GB was dat een
wereldpremiere.
In zijn boek The First Five Years verwijst Anthony Smith(GB) naar het gebeuren met de woorden van Tom Sage toen:
...It's far more exciting than just leaving a field.

Around noon time of September 6th of 1970 the Planta hot air balloon team had a hard time trying to fill their balloon,
and yet this would be an introduction to a world premiere.
Since that very day a modern hot air balloon would ascend from a city centre for the very first time.
The gas balloonists who had shown their skills the day before, later had to witness a new and easier way of ballooning
for which most of them turned up their noses.
That publicity show had turned the technical organisor, Mr Joseph Vanderstraeten, all grumpy, and he threatened that if a
next filling attempt later in the afternoon failed those rags would never be showed on the market square anymore!.
He indicated Francois Schaut who then had to demonstrate that it was quite possible to ascend from the market square
with those rags.
A bit before 6 PM Francois unfolded the PH-BEN for inflation rented in the Netherlands by Petrogaz.
At 6.20 PM exactly he alone on board rose rather quickly and stately.
Just when he reached the height of fifty meters, he heard the starting applause of the wondering crowd on the market
square below.
The English G-AYAM with Don Cameron and Tom Sage followed him.
Then Gerard Delforge filled the Planta OO-GDB and took off with Henri Vander Linden.
They all made safe flights with landings in the neighbourhood of Bornem.
On Sunday September 8th of 1974 five Belgian balloonists were allowed on the market square in order to compete for the
first Belgian Championship, but due to negative meteo conditions this flight was delayed until September 7th of 1975.
Gradually hot air ballooning would grow and take the size of the current international full coloured shows we all know
today.

According to the statement of the attendant foreign pilots, Ed Yost/USA, Don Cameron/GB and Tom Sage/GB, it was a
world premiere.
In his book The First Five Years Anthony Smith(GB) refers to the event with the words of Tom sage:
